- Provide recommended resources. If your ghostwriting project is going to take research, recommend books, articles, and any other resources you think would be valuable. By doing so, you can ensure that your writer is going to use resources you know and trust.
- Have a clear idea of what you want your book to be about, from beginning to end. Your ghostwriter can get you to where you want to be, but they’re the navigator. You need to decide the destination points.
- Be cohesive. Your ghostwriter can piece things together, make them flow from one story or chapter to the next, but not if you give them incomplete bits of stories. They have not lived your life, and they won’t feel right making it up for you.
- Have patience! Your ghostwriter is working really hard for you. Some days, they may write thousands of words for you, and some days they may only get a few down. Ghostwriters are people, and sometimes life happens. Also, you’re looking to them for their creativity and their skills; neither are readily available all the time. They can get burnt out, too. They want to give you the best book possible, and that means they want to write for you in the best way they can.
